For parents and guardians
The short version
RIMFIRE is a basketball game for one thumb. A child can play it without your phone learning anything about them, and without being sold anything.
What the game does not do
- It shows no advertising. None, including the "watch this to keep playing" kind.
- It sells nothing. There is no shop, no coins and no way to spend money in the game.
- It does not connect to the internet. It has no permission to. It works the same in aeroplane mode.
- It has no accounts or sign-in, so there is no name, email or password to give.
- It has no chat and no links. A child cannot contact anyone from it, or leave it for a website.
- It does not read contacts, location, photos, the microphone or the camera.
What it keeps on the phone
The best score, which achievements are earned, and the settings: sound, music, vibration, which side the pause button is on, and which hoop is chosen. These stay on the phone and go when the game is uninstalled.
The one permission
Vibration, for a short buzz when the ball hits the rim or goes in. There is a switch for it on the title screen.
Is it suitable?
| What happens | A ball is thrown at a hoop. A large man in a coat jumps to block it. Nobody is hurt, and nothing is fought. |
|---|---|
| Reading needed | Almost none: "flick up", the score, a few words on the results screen. |
| Skill needed | A quick thumb. Younger children may find the timing hard after the hoop starts moving. |
| How long a go lasts | Thirty seconds, a little more with good shooting. It is easy to stop. |
| Sound | Ball and rim sounds and a music loop. Sound and music each have a switch. |
